Student Petitions

The EE Department welcomes student petitions to have courses offered, course times moved, or similar changes. Students preparing to circulate a petition should be aware of the following:
  1. Petitions to offer a course have a better chance if made early. Ideal times are October for the following Spring and Summer Semesters, and February for the following Fall Semester.
  2. The University in most cases requires at least 15 students for an undergraduate class, and 10 students for a graduate class. A petition to offer a course without at least this many names has little chance of being successful.
  3. In summer sessions, the department needs specific permission and funding from the administration to add courses to the schedule. We cannot guarantee that we can obtain approval, even when the department supports the petition.
  4. Petitions to change times should either (a) be made before the official registration period starts, or (b) have the unanimous agreement of the students registered.
  5. In the case of specialized technical elective courses, it is recommended that students contact the faculty likely to teach the course and get their support before starting a petition.
  6. Petitions requesting a change of faculty, or requesting that a course be offered only if a particular faculty can teach it, are not favored.
