Equipment Checkout

  1. Equipment that is checked out to students is due at the end of the semester (last day of finals), unless an earlier date has been set.
  2. Equipment should be returned in good, working condition.
  3. After the due date at the end of the semester, the lab technician will post a list of persons with overdue equipment.
  4. Due to changing e-mail addresses, low response to e-mail between semesters, and the length of the list, you will probably receive no notice other than the posting described above.
  5. The lab technican may immediately ban anyone with overdue equipment from checking out more equipment.
  6. After a reasonable grace period, the lab technician will forward the list to the department office. The department may then (a) notify the course instructor to give you a grade of Incomplete, or (b) request the Office of Records and Registration to put a hold on your record, or (c) ban you from further equipment checkout, or (d) any combination of the above.

If you have a hold, incomplete, or checkout ban, you have several options to get it resolved:
  1. You can find and return the equipment. If you do this, take the equipment direct to the lab technician, and then request the lab tech to send an e-mail to the department to get the hold removed, and to the instructor to get an incomplete changed.
  2. You can request to be charged for the replacement cost of the equipment. If you wish to do this consult the department office. You will be given a memo to be taken to Payment and Collections. After making payment there, bring the receipt back to the department office so we can request removal of the hold and change of the incomplete.
  3. You can try to convince us that we have made a mistake. Please contact the lab technician in this case. If you come to an agreement, ask the lab tech to e-mail the department office.
